‘Your new pension’ webinar questions and answers

‘Your new pension’ webinar questions and answers

Several questions were raised during and after the webinar on 4 February 2025. As we noticed that many questions were check-related, we have also listed a number of general points about the new pension scheme that were raised during the webinar.

You can find this information as well as the frequently asked questions from the webinar in the Special ‘The new system and TNO Pension Fund’ on the Webinar page: https://www.specials.pensioenfondstno.nl/nieuw-pensioenstelsel/webinar. It also sets out the general points below about the new pension scheme and the Transition Plan.

General points and the Transition Plan
To start, we will first repeat a number of general key points below. These are both general key points regarding the transition to the new pension system and general key points that emerge from TNO’s Transition Plan:

  • The new pension system brings many changes, but the basics remain the same: active members will pay in contributions and the pension fund will collectively invest the entire pension assets.
  • By conversion, also called “transferral,” we are referring to the fact that the pension entitlements and pensions already accrued will be transferred to the new pension system on 1 July 2026. All members of the pension fund therefore move to the new system.
  • The scheme under the new system will be a so-called solidarity premium scheme (SPR). In this new scheme, everyone receives a personal pension pot, but the total assets in the pension fund will still be invested collectively. Therefore, no individual choices have to be made regarding investments and there is still a degree of solidarity in the pension plan.
  • At the time of the transition to the new system (1 July 2026), the (expected) pension for each member of the fund is at least equal to the (expected) pension in the current system.
  • With a funding level above 110% at the time of transition to the new scheme, there is a bit extra to pay out to all members.
  • As in the current pension system, pension will be paid out for life. The capital in the personal pension pot may move towards zero, but not the pension received by pensioners. This is due to the use of the solidarity reserve.
