Will you be 59 or older on 01 July 2026? Check out the TOP tip
Goldman Sachs will stop running the supplementary pension schemes as of 01 July 2026. It may be beneficial to use your TOP just before this date if you are 59 or older.
In our news report published on 22 December 2023, we explained that Goldman Sachs will stop running our supplementary pension schemes (TOP, Extra Pension and Net Pension) as of 01 July 2026. The accrued capital of these supplementary pension schemes will probably be incorporated in the new pension contract. The new pension scheme is expected to begin on the same date: 01 July 2026. If the capital accrued in your TOP account is incorporated into the new pension scheme, it will not be lost. You can still bring forward your pension benefits at any time, but the new system will be less flexible. This is because your TOP will become part of your new pension scheme and no longer exist independently.
TOP tip
If you are 59 or older on 01 July 2026, the less flexible arrangements from this date mean it could be beneficial for you to use your TOP capital beforehand for a full/partial TOP benefits, so this is something worth considering. If you do decide to exercise this option and use your TOP, the capital must be deployed for a TOP before 01 July 2026 and the account closed before that date. On 01 July 2026, the TOP scheme will cease to exist.
If you intend to use the TOP around 01 July 2026, you should therefore consider doing so at a time just before 01 July 2026.
What do you have to do in this case?
- Use the Pension Planner to calculate which options you can use. Log in with your DigiD under ‘My pension’ (top right of the site) to use the Pension Planner.
- If you want to use your TOP capital around 01 July 2026 so you can retire or partially retire earlier, we recommend choosing the LifeCycleMix Pre-pension so that the risk profile is adjusted accordingly. You can set this up yourself at Goldman Sachs.
- Do you want to use your TOP capital? Then let us know 3 months before you actually start receiving full or partial pension benefits (and therefore no later than 31 March 2026) by sending an e-mail to pf-tno@azl.eu.
- Using your TOP capital for temporary pension benefits may well affect your job. Discuss this with your employer in good time.
NB It is not yet possible to calculate pensions that start after 01 July 2026, because the new pension scheme isn’t expected to start before this date. It will only be possible to make pension calculations for pensions that start after 01 July 2026 when the new pension scheme is finalised.
